Chianti Superiore Docg 2018 75 cl Santa Cristina

ANT SC CHI

Chianti Superiore Santa Cristina is ruby red with purplish highlights.  On the nose it is complex with fruity notes of morello cherries, dried plums and hay.  Its palate is soft, mouth filling with velvety tannins and a long savory finish.

CLIMATE: The 2018 season started off with mild temperatures and frequent precipitation that guaranteed excellent groundwater reserves.  The month of July brought sunny weather uninterrupted by extreme temperatures.  Occasional rain showers characterized the last half of August followed by September weather that was hot and sunny.  Sangiovese was harvested on schedule starting in mid September and lasted up until the beginning of October.  Yields were average in quantity but of excellent quality.

WINEMAKING: Grapes were harvested and brought to the cellar where two different vinification processes were performed.  One part of the must macerated for 7-8 days with a maximum temperature of 25 °C (77 °F) to maintain and enhance the grapes’ fruity aromas.  The other more substantial part underwent a longer maceration period, 10-12 days, at a temperature of 30 °C (86 °F) with gentle pump-overs to increase the complexity of flavors.  After malolactic fermentation was completed in the month of November, the wine aged on the lees in stainless steel vats.  Chianti Superiore Santa Cristina was bottled mid July 2019.

HISTORY: The ancient town of Cortona rises on a high hill not far from the cities of Siena and Perugia. On one side the wide plain, on the other side the hill and its hamlet. This is the view which can be enjoyed from the Santa Cristina cellars, constructed in 2006 to confirm and renew the tradition of the wine of the same name, first produced in the year 1946. Over time, Santa Cristina has become a reference point for connoisseurs, and not merely these consumers, thanks a constant commitment to high quality. The care and attention always given to both the vineyard work and the work in the cellar have been the stimulus for constant innovation and for measuring professional work and capacities with both native and international grape varieties. The result has been the creation of a family of wines, all different from one another but distinguished by the same artisan style, fruit of the indissoluble link between the vineyard, the terroir, and human contributions and input. The Chianti Superiore Santa Cristina bears a name which boasts almost a century of history, a name which stands for round tannins, great freshness, and a strong to the territory in which it is produced.
